A little bit of Island luxury. Boutique bed and breakfast in Whiting Bay, Arran. A peaceful and intimate base from which to explore everything that the Island has to offer. With hosts to make you comfortable and advise on whatever activities take your fancy.
We are Rob (a Scottish Geologist) and Nanette (an American HR professional), and have lived for most of our adult lives in Glasgow visiting Arran regularly and especially when hosting visitors. Having travelled extensively we wanted to establish a place which combined the best of all the great places we have stayed in, and to offer visitors help in making the most of a visit to Scotland and in particular, Arran.
Between us we have quite a range of interests and many with an outdoor focus: walking, climbing, cycling, kayaking, fishing and bird watching; also Scottish history, archaeology, genealogy, interior decoration, cooking & baking, (with special interest in food intolerances and preferences) and malt whisky.
We bought the property in 2015 and have spent the intervening time sympathetically converting a beautiful 19th century house into a comfortable and welcoming destination. Peace and luxurious relaxation are main things on offer in addition to any help or advice about how you might like to spend your time on Arran should you require it.

Great place to stay, the breakfast room has marvellous views across the water to the mainland. Very welcoming, with great local knowledge of the island and walking. Rooms are decorated with attention to detail and with everything you might need. Highly recommended.
If our walking group had any doubts about staying at a single B & B for 8 nights those doubts were dispelled the moment we arrived at Cruickshanks. The quality of the accommodation in this beautiful old island house is breathtaking, a perfect marriage of style and comfort. Our hosts, Rob and Nanette, have created a wonderful sanctuary for tired feet, with exquisite en-suite bedrooms and a gracious lounge cum dining-room where we all lingered of an evening, absorbed by the welcoming fire, the hundreds of books lining the wall-length bookcase and the events of our day. It's a level of comfort we haven't encountered before, all overseen by our kind, interesting and thoughtful hosts. They are great cooks, too, with everything freshly prepared, using carefully sourced local ingredients. Breakfasts will never be the same without Rob's raspberry jam.
Rob & Nanette were excellent hosts. After a full day walking in the rain we were welcomed by a roaring wood burner in the lounge. Our wet clothes and boots were whisked off by Rob to dry. The lounge was and excellent place to relax in the evening and share the days experiences. The bed room was very well appointed with luxury bathroom items and great attention to detail. Rob was full of knowledge and advice about walking on the island
