I ordered a remanufactured BMW 320d engine and arranged the install to take place at my local garage. The delivery was quick and the engine was excellent. I am not disappointed at all with the performance but amazed at how much the price difference was from other suppliers. Well done Ideal Engines & Gearboxes! Would definitely recommend.

PLEASE avoid this company. They owe me £1200!! I inquired about an engine they called me first thing the next day and had the exact engine "in stock" so I thought sounds great and ordered it and shouldve known something was wrong when they didnt accept credit or debit card but wanted a bacs transfer of £1200. This happened 2 weeks ago and I was promised delivery within 2 days, i received nothing. I left it till it had been 4 days, still nothing. I called them up, they claim there had been a delay so it would be with me the next day before twelve. I asked for a tracking number they didnt have one, i asked which courier, they didnt know. I then started to research and was sickened and mortified to read all these reviews and knew we had been scammed. The next day there came nothing! As it was a friday i tried to call but there was no answer. I waited until Monday and I called up again and was told the engine had tried to be delivered at 6:15 on Saturday evening but nobody was there to collect! What?? I demanded a refund of my money as I had researched the spec of the vehicle and the mileage they had claimed on the engine and had found a vehicle for sale in essex which was ironically the same spec as the car they claim the engine came from and low and behold had the exact same mileage! What a coincidence!! They claimed I was lying and so i forwarded them the vehicle details i had found. He said ill come back to you within the hour with a tracking number to prove delivery. I emailed a request of a refund and received a return email saying my engine would delivered the next day before 12, but still no tracking number and ignoring my concerns of the mysterious vehicle with the same details as the engine I had purchased, it also said that the engine had not been delivered on Saturday but had in fact been delivered to the wrong address!! Even after promising next day delivery 3 times, Still nothing came! I have cancelled my order and demanded a refund. I have spoken to them today and wisely recorded the call and they rudely, and patronisingly claim I will get nothing back and i quote "say goodbye to your money" I am starting legal action against this company and starting a wind up order which will be served if they do not return my money. PLEASE BE WARNED AND AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. It is sickening that they do not consider the fact that My wife and daughters are stranded without a vehicle and the emotional, financial and physical effect this has had on our family. PLEASE AVOID!

Cameron. Leon, Adam suspect that they are not their real name. They took my money as they wouldn't take credit card now I know why, and to this day I struggle to get refund. 14 CCjs and now petition is on it way to the court. Sun...hope you tak this story up, I am in contact with a few people who got stung by these con artist.

Paid for the engine last week, £1100. They don't accept credit cards. Engine never shipped, they don't answer phone calls once they know you are chasing up an engine that hasn't arrived, they never call back. "He's just stepped out of the Office... I don't know nuthin' about it mate! Etc etc." Web is littered with bad reviews. If the engine is delivered I will amend this review, but so far sadly it's looking like a complete scam and I am reviewing my options...

First time I have used a supplier other than a main dealer. Had been quoted some hefty sums to replace the gearbox of my MINI Cooper from MINI themselves. A friend of mine recommended them and I was impressed with the quality of work and the low price and now my car runs like new. 10 outta 10.

I had to replace the engine of my gf’s Mini Cooper S. Contacted the dealer and many suppliers. the cheapest price was quoted by Ideal Engines, so went for it and may I say definitely didn’t regret it. The engine was reconditioned and of good quality. The Cooper is running great and I don’t have to listen to my GF nag anymore about her car. Good Work guys.

Its been six months since I purchased a recon MR2 engine from these guys, my local garage also ensured my that he could source one but the price differential was negligible and guarantees that ideal engines offered make me made the decision in their favor. I have to say these guys are probably the best when it comes to engine reconditioning and fitting but don’t expect anything more, their prices are competitive no doubt but their customer service and staff can’t be compared to Toyota’s dealership, though Toyota also tends to get stubborn.

Btw, I am not their payroll and didn’t get any commission from them either, I am writing just to offer an unbiased look at these guys, if someone is doing good then he should be appreciated.

After three purchases, two for my fiesta and one for my friends mazda3, I can safely say that ideal engines are experts in what they do, reconditioning , but their management is prone to mess things up. I got delayed delivery once, two times it was right on time and faced some issues with transaction processing as well, heard they have sort these things out but will see in future how much better they have got really. for now my fiests is as fiesty as it copuld be.

Theres a very good reason that ford has wound up ranger, its bloody unreliable. If it wasn’t for ideal engines I would have scrapped this so called economical pick up truck. From almost entire engine to gearbox, every thing is now reconed by ie, and only now it is delivering some productivity, otherwise it used to sit either in my garage or at backstreet garage.
Riley Wilson - 08/06/2012 | report this review
Best bet as far as shogun engines are concerned, they did reconditioning for me and I was so pleased that I referred two of my frends and none of them are dissatisfied. For the price they charge and the warranties they offer, they are one of kind, in a league of their own. Though they should introduce more packages.

Immaculate facility, i was reluctant to hand them my alfa but considering the equipment they were using and the cars they were handling, two 5 series and 1 rover at the time of my visit, i was somewhat relaxed. yes!i surveyed their garage and chose them for gearbox replacement and i am glad i did that, since after 36 hours my car was back and i was sure that my alfa wont be manhandled during those hours.

After two separate garages couldn’t diagnose the root cause of heating problem, ideal engines did. Call it dumb luck of skills, I am impressed. Instead of asking me to change the whole culling unit, two hours later my Rovers water pump was repaired and revived.

Reconditioning prius’ gearbox is no easy I was hoping to get charged like crazy but ideal engines reconditioned and dispatched transmission unit well below market average, my local mechanic with wretched garage was asking for more.

I found idealengines with assistance from my self proclaimed mechanic colleague who previously purchased rav4s reconditioned engine. I required a recon unit for my ranger and American engines are relatively hard to find at competitive price. Not with idealengines, their First offer was competitive enough to seal the deal and if you add in their warranty and fitting services then it was simply unbeatable.

buying a used celica is always risky, people tend to molest factory tunned engines for no good reason. Mine’s blew up, well almost, it started acting like Yaris’ engine, absolutely no power. My friend looked at it and referred me to idealengnes.co.uk, I checked their prices and delivery dates and went ahead. Their reconditioned engine is better performing and reliable than he tunned one I had previously.

I hate pushy mechanics who think they are sales men, I booked a reconditioned gearbox for my mini online at ideal engines and not only got 10% off instantly, these guys inspected my vehicle and instead of pushing me to get more work done they refrained and old the missing shifts issue can be fixed with repair instead of replacement, my eyes popped. Wowww, they have at least gained my trust wont hand over my beloved mini to anyone except these guys.

I dragged my mark 4 astra for a whole month from one repair shop to another but no one could identify the main reason for stuttering engine, loss of power and flashing emission light. Ideal engines identified it almost instantly and repaired my astra within a day. Do yourself a favor and avoid main dealers, they charge exorbitantly, also avoid backstreet repair shops, they rely too much on their gut feeling.

Sending my 99 VW Sharan for repairs because of recurring clutch plate problem was a nightmare, on more than one occasion we had to ask our neighbors to pick and drop kids to school. It wasn’t until we asked Ideal Engines for assessment, in just one day, after school hours, they asessed and rectified the issue, a loose cable, I don’t know how any other repair shop could have missed that. Anyhow IE provided great, sincere, timely service.

Kieran Willis - 26/04/2012 | report this review
I saved around 5000 £ for my first car, 2004 Rx 8 with only 30000 miles on dial. I was amped on closing the deal at 3400 £ but just after a month and doing just 1000 miles in it I felt that it lost a major chunk of its power, plus many niggling problems started appearing like starting issues, malfunctioning electronics and oil leaks. I posted my issues on Yahoo and soon got many replies, out of those the solution posted by idealengines.co.uk rep seemed most logical. He told that Rx8 and even all rotary engines aren’t suitable for making short trips to market, that causes frequent starting problems and as far as engine is concerned he speculated that mileage meter was probably tampered to hide original mileage. I ended up in Ideal Engines And Gearboxes garage, they inspected my Rx8 and offered a used engine or get my engine extensively repaired. I opted repair option as it was quoted to be in range of 1400 to 2000 £. In less than a week my Mazda was returned with almost a brand new, at least performance wise, engine. I am happy with the deal mainly because even after repair Rx8 cost me nearly 5000 £, so it’s not that bad.

My 99 Nissan Frontier became a recurring problem ever since I replaced its original engine with a used engine from local junkyard. Used engine was in good working condition but local repair shop couldn’t fix it properly, so my maintenance bills rocketed sky high. From going for repair warranties to trying best workshop in Sussex, nothing solved the issues in fact everyone was asking to get engine replaced again. I don’t know how but I ended on idealengines website. They asked me to take frontier to them or they can get it towed, I took it to them and for three days they scrutinized whole car, engine fitting and everything. They handed my car back on 4th day with a computerized invoice of services, parts and six month warranties on parts they replaced or worked on. I was damn impressed, now six months have gone by and Frontier has proved itself as rugged as any new pickup.

Getting my 96 Impreza’s engine reconditioned was one messy affair. I was quoted very low price on phone and by email so I accepted the contract, they even picked my car from my garage, so I was impressed with their customer support but within weeks they emailed me new aggravated quotes with threats of charging me fines if I don’t pay on time. They even withheld my car so I paid hoping that at least I have got a reconditioned engine but I was dead wrong on that too. That engine was probably a second hand engine from another washed up Impreza with its own problems. It never yielded full power and hogged up all the oil and gas. So I had to get back on the look out for a new repair shop. God bless my colleague who showed me idealengines.co.uk, this time I opted for partial reconditioning as I couldn’t afford the extensive one. But idalengines has solved almost all of the annoying issues with my old engine without charging me any extra money or hassle.
