Experienced teachers Melodie and John Allen opened the Kip McGrath Oldham West Education Centre in September 2011. Both are highly qualified experienced teachers with a strong desire to ensure that all children get every opportunity to be the best. They take time to understand the children and engage with them to discover their inner potential and help them develop the building bricks of life and the confidence required with this.

Melodie Allen B.A (Hons) 1st Class, QTS, AST, PGCTT, PGDipTT.
Melodie has a first class honours degree in Education and is a highly experienced professional who has taught at Key Stage Three, GCSE and Advanced level in the state sector for many years and most recently held the post of Head of Faculty. Melodie has worked as a private home tutor as well as within another Kip McGrath Franchise teaching both English and Maths for three years prior to opening this Centre and is passionate about bringing the best out of every child.
Melodie is graded as an Advanced Skills Teacher as recognized and awarded by Ofsted. In this capacity Melodie has worked to support, guide and advise teachers in their professional duties in such matters as classroom management, lesson and resource preparation and behaviour strategies as well as leading departments in their preparation for an Ofsted Inspection.
Melodie has taken part in many exciting projects whilst working in the state sector. One such example, being, travelling to Lithuania as an Ambassador to learn more about how Gifted and Talented students are educated there.
John D Allen B. Eng, PGCE, QTS, M.ASE, M.IoP.
John initially qualified from the University of Leeds with a Degree in Mineral Engineering and then spent the next 20 years in Industry, working for companies such as Unilever, Associated British Foods and Blue Circle in the Manufacturing and Supply Chain sectors.
John has a vast array of experience from within the chemical, glass and agro-chemical industries. John has spent time working in most European countries as well as spells in China and Brazil. A highlight of such an enriched career is working in South Africa on a gold mine!
John retrained at the University of Chester obtaining a PGCE in Secondary Education with Science and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). He has then spent time teaching in both the state and independent sectors , delivering Key Stage 3, 4 and 5, as well as being a home tutor.
John brings to the classroom, many extra attributes not usually associated with a qualified teacher, such as exciting adventures of the “real world" to enthuse and excite the students. His experience as an employer for many years brings invaluable first hand advice and guidance for our older students preparing for interviews and gaining entry to further education and university.
