Here at Fairfield Garage, we carry out vehicle diagnostics that cover most types of vehicles. We use traditional equipment and the latest upto date tools such as a Texa Diagnostic Scan Tool for the European cars, Carman scan lite for the Japanese and Asian vehicles along with a Sykes Pickavant scan tool for the older vehicles. We also use a Pico Oscilloscope to diagnose and repair faults.
Diagnostic testing has become a major part of our activities, due to the increased use of electronics in the modern motor vehicle. Even a well serviced car can fall foul to electrical problems!. Most modern cars can have upwards of over 50 ECUs (electronic control units) to control everything from engine management to electric windows.
Most diagnostic testing costs start at £25.00. And that will normally cover most instances, but sometimes the problem is not as easy to find and will result in higher costs. Here is a list of some of the systems we cover, but if you can not see the system you need testing here please do not hesitate to call us to find out if we can.

The manufacturer of your vehicle specifies the suitable pressure, and it is your responsibility to make sure that the pressure is checked and corrected on a regular basis, at least every couple of weeks.
There are three main reasons why maintaining the right tyre pressure is important. The first is safety. Tyres that are under inflated can overheat, and over inflated tyres can lead to poor vehicle handling on the road and waer the outside of the tyres very quickly.
The second reason is economy. Over or under inflated tyres suffer more damage than those with the correct pressure and need to be replaced more regularly. Vehicles with under-inflated tyres have increased rolling resistance that require more fuel to maintain the same speed.
The third reason for maintaining the correct tyre pressure is good for the environment. Correct tyre pressures help to maintain optimum fuel efficiency. This can equate to lower Co2 emissions coming from your vehicle than those with incorrect tyre pressures and that has to be good for the environment.
