Why we chose Greenfields Independent Day and Boarding School

Back in 2010 when my eldest son was attending a tutor in East Grinstead (Effective Education Centre), I became aware of Greenfields School. He went on to attend a local state secondary school which, after two years, became apparent was not the right setting for him. We then looked at Greenfields as one of the options to move him to at the end of Year 8. We are a Church of England family who needed a welcoming school. With this mind, and the fact that my son loved his taster day at the school, we decided to start him at Greenfields in September 2014. The school has transformed his attitude to learning and his education in general. The small class size meant he had an opportunity to catch up on what he had missed in his previous two years in senior school. And within his first year there he was excelling even his own expectations. He is now Year 11, has sat his English paper six months early and has predicted grades for the eight IGCSE/GCSE subjects that he can be truly proud of achieving. Along with the exceptional teaching and dedication of the teachers and staff at the school the attitude towards cultivating confidence and the zero tolerance of bullying policy has proved invaluable. Drama was a subject that was never considered by our son but Greenfields own Theatre Company had brought out his flair for acting, dance and singing and he is thoroughly thriving on the packed Drama GCSE schedule which involves many trips to London to see productions. My husband, myself and our son are delighted we made the decision to send him to Greenfields. If only we had realised what there was on offer here we would have sent him long before 2014! Thanks to Greenfields he has a bright future ahead of him, has attained grades which give him the best chance of getting into the university’s he wants to apply for, and most importantly he is a happy and confident young man who genuinely loves going to school and has made friends from all over the world and friends for life. What I love about Greenfields is that the school seems to be giving children something I honestly doubt any other school in England could guarantee – confident, independent and able children routinely. Of course all schools will produce some children like this but without the study technology, ethical values and other gems of wisdom being applied at the Greenfields – it is not guaranteed – and I want it guaranteed. What I observe is that some children survive well in other schools and many others do not. There are too many random factors that will hit a child despite all the best efforts of teachers and parents (and most of them are sincerely doing the best they can I have no doubt about that). Things such as environmental menace, street drugs, psychiatric drugging, bullying, peer pressure, alcohol, the need to impress ‘friends’ with their first ASBO etc. What they lack is the technology Greenfields uses - and this is why - percentage wise - Greenfields can honestly ensure that the majority of its children learn how to study, how to use what they learn, have good a ethic level instilled in them (‘Way to Happiness’) and the confidence in themselves to withstand peer pressure and do what they think is right. Most of the children I see at Greenfields are confident, independent and able. It pleases me as it is so beyond what I’ve observed in other schools. My own secondary school, for example, took me in at 11, crushed most of the confidence and aspirations I had managed to scrape together in junior school and primary school (which are generally much kinder to children I think) and spat me out at 16 with an ‘average intelligence’ label and no self confidence at all unless I was drunk. This is not unusual– just observe some children sometime. My son did not start at Greenfields until he was 11. He went to a good primary school and was not unhappy – he was, however, indifferent to school. This changed almost overnight at Greenfields and I was very happy to see it. I want my son to have the best start he can get in life and I don’t just mean good exam results (although he did get 11 good grade GCSE’s last year so this helps!) A child’s success in life should not be measured by what exams he has or how much money he can make. It should be judged on how well he can communicate, achieve his goals and help other people in the process. He may get this in another school. But I know he will get this at Greenfields. GB, parent

Greenfields Independent Day and Boarding School

My son has been at Greenfields since he was 2 ½ years old. He is now 15 and I would never choose to have my son in any other school apart form Greenfields. For me the place is very special - not only did I go to school there, but I was also a teacher there for just over 12 years! Having experienced all views; being a student, being a teacher and being a parent, I can confidently say that he is in the best place. Greenfields is special for many reasons. One is the use of Study Technology. Where else can you get an education that actually allows you to learn properly - making sure you understand it all. Not learning for just a test or exam but much more importantly, learning so that they can apply it all to life and be able to achieve happiness in what they want to do. The teachers care about each student and asking questions is encouraged and expected. The atmosphere is what a lot of people describe as ‘family’. Well it is like that for me too. I found it hard to leave when I was a student, left and then returned to teach. It has been my second home for many years. My son does better under an education like this. He is not invalidated or criticized by peers or staff and is able to be himself - a young man. He doesn’t have the pressures that are all through other schools like drugs, bullying, sex issues etc. He can just be a student and learn. I would like to thank every single teacher at Greenfields for all their dedication and the hard work that they do. It IS appreciated by all the parents. Thanks so much.
